Holiday Fashion Faux Pas: Which Seasonal Styles Look Good?
Welcome to the club that no one wants to join! You are not alone. I was diagnosed with type 2 in summer of 2008, and it's been quite a road ever since. Mourning the old ways, drinking-through-a-firehose feeling of learning the new ways, but eventually getting to a point at which there's some equilibrium. Even though I still hate that I got diabetes, it has been a catalyst toward a healthier lifestyle, and I feel better than I have in a long, long time.
Some things that have helped me have been the Tu Diabetes online community and the Blood Sugar 101 web site and book. (I especially appreciated Ms. Ruhl's "You Did Not Eat Your Way to Diabetes" article, citing numerous studies that show that it's not just being overweight that causes type 2 diabetes. Moving past the guilt and shame was a big step for me.) True, it is bewildering, the contradictory information you will hear from the health professionals (look at your experience with your two doctors alone!), but I firmly believe that getting the best handle possible on blood glucose levels and cholesterol levels will give me the best chance at good quality of life for the longest possible time.
Best of luck to you!
